Birds fly high - a rare and important collection of 18th century ornithological pictures comes to the market
Michael Mays was asked to research and arrange for the sale of the largest collection of basso relievo bird pictures to have come to the market since the 1930's. These unusual pictures which were made of embossed card and then hand painted, were first produced by Samuel Dixon of Dublin in the 1740's. All of the forty four pictures were sold successfully in Edinburgh. The highest individual lot price being £20,000 achieved for 'The Crowned and Nubian Crane'.
